So I got the Ultimate Edition for DA:I for the price of one DLC (still a fucking ripoff in my mind)
I started Descent and BOY do I hate it, it's not more fucking difficult the enemies are just given a shitton more health and damage is increased. It was fun clearing out the Thaig, the Ogre Alpha and Emissary Alpha are just long boring fucking slogs.
Difficult my ass. The only thing challenging about it is for my patience :\
Annnnnnd. I lost. Annnnnnnd I have to do the whole battle again?! Fuck that. I'm going to do something that respects my time. Might pick it up later.

The Trials can make things interesting (played through Descent without the Trials and went through it pretty quickly, though that might've been because I already knew how most of the enemies fought due to DA MP (no ogres in DA MP)). I always have the first 2 Trials active in my current playthroughs (first one makes all the enemies be at least the same level as you, and the second gives enemies new abilities (Leaping Shot and Mind Blast to name a couple)).
Regardless, I felt that JoH was more challenging than Descent or Trespasser. Though, the lore drops in all 3 were pretty interesting.

Never felt like enemies took that long to kill (maybe because I was overleveled/overgeared for it) but if I was stupid I could still face a party wipe. But with the silly level cap it became pretty apparent since they had to balance for set levels (and find ways to make it challenging which they did with health and damage jumps) instead of going for a natural progression. Switched to casual for the first time, hard is usually my thing and got through the fight pretty well and boy am I glad to have switched to casual those earthshakers are... really fucking boring and long. Well, at low levels, the second trial can be a real pain in the ass vs. spellbinders since they can constantly regen Barrier and their Mind Blast actually does damage. Had it where my S&S f!Adaar, Solas, Varric, and Cassandra were wailing on a rebel spellbinder in the Hinterlands for about an hour before we finally killed it. Happened twice in the same day :/ |
